You can also see it as a feeling of fear. Everyone experiences the feeling of anxiety in their life. Think about the first day of going to a new school or the moment you need to present in front of a group of people.

But if the feeling of anxiety takes over, lasting longer than six months, has a big influence on your life, you may have an anxiety disorder. (1)

What can you do against anxiety?

There are a lot of things you can do against anxiety. You can go to a doctor to find out if you have an anxiety disorder. If this is the case you could get a medical treatment, which mostly consists of psychotherapy and medication.

It could also be that there is no (medical) treatment necessary. For some people changing their daily life is enough. Here are a few things you can do yourself.

Talking about anxiety on social media

There are both benefits and disadvantages of talking on social media. On social media, it is much easier to connect with others and it is an easy way to share your feelings. But you also need to keep in mind that social media can lead to internet addiction, which can lead to disruptions in your sleep patterns. (4)

On social media, there are a lot of people who talk about anxiety. For example, on Twitter, there are “communities” who support each other and exchange experiences, information and inspiration.

When you are interested in sharing your feelings or maybe only reading more about anxiety on Twitter. I could probably help you with the research I did.

This account is a Charity that believes in young people’s future, supporting through positive messages. As you can see (left) they retweeted a tweet with a video of two women who share their point of view on anxiety.

This account is an award-winning Irish wellbeing movement created to transform how we talk about and treat mental health. As you can see (left) they tweet about the impact of anxiety. They also shared some tips to manage the workload.

This is an account of a Multi-platinum audio engineer/ audio artist. His latest release is called “Anxiety”. The song is about anxiety can do with you.

It’s when you allow anxiety to interfere with your life and what is important to you, then it becomes a disorder. So you’re controlling the anxiety in a sense, it’s not controlling you. You’re living your life you’re feeling like we all do but…” -Lyrics of the song-
